I am French and Canadian with Japanese origins, and I have settled in Liège almost a year ago. I have lived in France, Austria, and Canada.
Having found very little information on Liège on the internet, and even less in English, I have decided to share with you some of my discoveries. I hope you will find it helpful.
My goal is also to connect the international community living in the area, so don’t hesitate to contact me at onuma4000@yahoo.fr
Hope to hear from you soon!
The Loonie

Hi everybody!
Good news…. I’ve just started ‘The Informant’ monthly for Liege, Aachen and Maastricht….. In English! Yes, it’s true! All sorts off activities, maps, conversion lists and games (You can win the newest novel of Dan Brown!). It’s a start but we improve to do better. This small agenda can be found for free in cafes, the tourist office, universities and cultural centres. If you know some places were we can lay down the magazine, please do let me know! And because the booklet is only possible with advertisements, please do let me know if you know an interested company! Interesting also for international companies searching for English speaking staff! And of course you can give me (in time) some agenda-tips (concert, lecture, etc.).
Searching for a nice pub? Try Toccatta on Place Saint Lambert. The owner is Pierre (a small French speaking black man from Africa) and his coffee is great. Perhaps we can meet over there?
Tschuess!

Excellent. Someone created a website about Liège in English. It is interesting that these sites are springing up. Also, I have noticed that there are even more tourists wandering the town centre over the past few years. I like to think that this is related to the investment the government is making into the region. This is a nicely thought out site and visually pleasing.
Thanks for your nice comment. However, I am not a member of any kind of governmental organization, I just decided to do this for fun, on my own.
If you know other websites in English on Liège, I would be happy to see them!
Cheers,
Loonie

Hi The Loonie!
Thanks for a great blog!
We’re a couple of Aussies moving to Liege soon and have been searching the internet for info on jobs, housing etc. with not much luck. Wondering if you happen to know of any good real estate or job websites. I am also thinking of doing some volunteer work while I search for paid work. Any ideas would be awesome!
Thanks very much.
Keep up the good work!
Thanks for your message!
I guess the most popular website for housing is Immoweb.be http://www.immoweb.be/fr/
As for volonteering, I don’t think there is any centralized website for now. Actually, I’m working on this project with Junior Chamber, we are going to create our own very soon.
You should have a look at the exhibitor listing of Retrouvailles http://www.retrouvailles.be/ This event takes place every first September weekend, during which about 200 associations and clubs from Liège present their activities.
Good luck with your search!
Cheers,
The Loonie
Hi,
I’m writing to ask if anyone can give me some info about english speaking groups, in Liège and outskirts, who regularly meet up just for a chat or go to the cinema/museum… It’s for my mum who has found herself widowed and and bored. She would like to get out and about more, but doesn’t really enjoy doing things by herself. She’s very open minded, has travelled extensively and is very young at heart.
Thanks for your help,
Jonyth
Hi!
Nice website. My girlfriend and I are in Liege too – do you still add to this site? We moved here last December, but we really haven’t done as much around the area as we wanted to. We went to Manschau last weekend to swim in the lake which was brilliant and I agree, the village does seem to be from a different era altogether, really nice. We also like to cycle – mostly along to Tilff or Esneux or occasionally up to Mastricht. We like the cinema too (mostly the Sauveniere) – saw Inception last night which is recommended if you haven’t seen it yet – almost as confusing as the layout to the cinema itself!
We went to La Batte a lot in winter to buy lots of vegetables for soup each week when only one of us had a job (thankfully our diet is more varied now!) we also thought it was a bit different to the markets we were used to in France – not so much local stuff it seems. If you are looking for an unusual evening you should try the bar in I think En Neuvice street (?), we were there last week and everyone there are regulars and they take turns standing up and singing songs like ‘je ne regrette rien’ while an old dog looks on, and there’s lots of pictures on the walls stretching back to maybe the late 50′s of past regulars there. I don’t think we’ll go back but interesting at the time!
The other strange thing I saw in the last week was a boat race taking part in the canal behind belle ile – and the boats were all homemade – mostly made out of bath tubs – and the participants were dressed up. Not sure what it was all about really I was just trying to go to the shop – anyone know?? I think we would also like to try caneoing on the ourthe one weekend while it is still warm. Anyway, I don’t know how I managed to write so much – Im supposed to be at work..
